The Roman Forum was the center of the city and all its activities. It was a large area where shops and markets were set up. The government buildings surrounded the Forum, and it was there that the Senate of Rome met. Above the Forum was the Temple of Jupiter, the king of the Roman gods. Other temples dedicated to important gods of the Roman religion were also located near the Forum.
