Plato

Plato was a pupil of Socrates, the famous Greek scholar and teacher. Plato believed in being able to obtain ideal states of being and that a person should try to reach the ideal human state through philosophy. He believed that philosopher kings should rule city-states. His focus was to produce good men which would lead to a good state. Plato started the Academy, which is considered by some to be the first university. His writings recorded the thoughts and ideas of Socrates as well as his own extensions of those ideas.
