On detail for his turn at GI gardening from his regular job as a teletype operator, GI breaks ground for young cantaloupe plants. Station agricultural detail is part of the ETO plan to feed soldiers locally and more economically and better during fresh fruit and vegetable season. Potatoes, tomatoes, beans, watermelons and other suitable food are grown at this base in England.
