STEEL JAWS OF COAST GUARD-MANNED LST SWALLOW RAIL CARS - Flat rail cars of the Army Transportation Corps roll onto the track-equipped tank deck of a Coast Guard-manned LST for transportation to France, where they will be pushed onto a land track stretching to the water's edge and placed in service on the vast rail network needed to supply Allied Armies on the Western Front. The tank landing ship represents a floating link between railroads in France and England.
