In honor of Lt. Woodhouse, Marines of the Second Battalion, Twenty-second Marines raised the flag on the southern most end of Okinawa just 61 days after it was raised over Okinawa's northern most point. Woodhouse was killed while directing his troops on May 30, 1945. He was very well liked and respected by his troops.
