JAP STRONGHOLD.This, formerly a Jap command post, built of heavy concrete and steel and half covered with earth, was one of the strongest buildings found on the island. Windows covered by heavy steel plates and air vents protrude outside from the shelter below. A look-out tower stands at the rear of this building which was at the north end of the island. July 1944
