Private uses a lensatic compass in orienting a tactical line map. This operation in necessary when planning a patrol route and reporting information found on patrol. The Sgt. writes a message to take back to his unit from the data supplied by the Pfc. The bag slung over his shoulder is a dispatch case, usually containing maps, message blanks, orders and other utensils needed for patrol duty. Fort Benning, GA - May 1945
